Kid Fitness Programs
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Eddie_Tobey]Eddie Tobey

Kids’ fitness is a major concern today with several kids becoming overweight or even obese by the time they reach their teenage years. Over 40% of the kids in the US are believed to be overweight. Even though obesity is often believed to be because of genetic factors or because of over-eating, lack of proper exercise is also a major reason for obesity among children. There is an imbalance between activity and diet that causes even children who eat normally to put on excessive weight. Obesity is determined by calculating the body mass index, which is the ratio between the height and the weight. A BMI between 17 and 23 is considered healthy. Anything higher than this is considered to be obesity.

These days, there are special fitness programs exclusively for kids. These include exercises, healthy nutritional plans, and even emotional strengthening. Kids’ fitness programs are designed to be a lot of fun. They are also designed based on their age.

Kid fitness programs are comprised of several activities like: T-ball, hockey, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, flag football, track and field, boxing, kickboxing, and martial arts. There are also special fitness programs that use unique skills like dancing, ballet, cheerleading, gymnastics, and yoga. Kids should also be encouraged to participate in rigorous activities like tag, chase, jump rope, random running, racing, swimming, cycling, and walking.

There are also fitness programs that involve the whole family. These are a great way to incorporate healthy living into the entire family’s routine, so that the kids do not feel alienated when they have to exercise alone. Nowadays, many summer camps are incorporating fitness programs into their regimes. There are also special fitness programs for kids with disabilities.

Understanding the Food Pyramid for Kids
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sally_Hamlin]Sally Hamlin

In 2005, the US Department of Agriculture released the new food pyramid plan. Kids and adults alike no longer need to follow the same horizontally sectioned food pyramid. Adults now have their own pyramid while there is also a new food pyramid for kids. What does this say now about food, nutrition and diet?

The new food pyramid for kids basically implies that kids have different nutritional and diet needs as adults. Kids need to follow the specifications in the new food pyramid for kid so that they can grow up healthy and strong.

The food pyramid for kid is telling kids and parents that kids should eat a variety of food items from all the food groups. A healthy meal according to the food pyramid for kid should therefore contain lean meat, beans, nuts, fish, milk, dairy products, fruits, grains, vegetables and some fats.

The food pyramid for kid however is not telling kids to eat everything in the same amounts. The same age old advice still holds about eating more grains, fruits and vegetables than other food types. Oils and sugar should be eaten in smaller portions. Parents should also note that some foods in each category should not be eaten in great amounts. Fruit pies and tetra pack juices for example do not necessarily contain the same nutrients as real fruits and should only be taken occasionally.

The best way to encourage kids to follow the food pyramid for kid requirements is to set a good example. Parents and other family members should vow to eat only healthy food. It would also help to keep the whole house free of junk food and other food items that are less in nutritional value.

The new food pyramid for kid is also trying to tell us that kids should be given a lot of time to exercise. Good physical play for example is advisable for kids to stay healthy. Parents can also encourage kids to follow the physical exercise advice of the new food pyramid for kid by being a good example and engaging in physical activities as well. Parents can keep kids active by participating in family camping activities or family sports games.

The whole business of eating and living healthy may be a difficult concept to teach children. The food pyramid for kid also suggests however, that healthy living and eating should be taught slowly but surely.

Exercise Structure or Fun?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mila_Sidman_Alice_Seba]Mila Sidman Alice Seba

With kid gyms popping up all over the place, many parents are asking the question should exercise for kids be structured or fun?

That answer depends on your family’s needs. In many ways kid gyms, indoor trampolines and exercise videos are great for busy families and when the weather doesn’t allow for outdoor exercise.

In other ways, kids need to experience more natural forms of exercise for a healthy well-rounded level of fitness. To truly set your child on a path to a healthy and active lifestyle you should incorporate natural forms of movement and exercise into their routine as well as your structured activities.

Here are a few reasons why:

Although 30 minutes on a trampoline is better than no exercise at all, your kids may use that as an excuse to say “I’ve done my exercise for the day now I can relax”.

In reality 30 minutes of activity a day really isn’t much when you look at how much activity humans were designed to do. This is why structured exercise can often cause problems and a false sense of security.

Another problem with structured exercise is that kids may see this as boring or not look forward to it, you certainly don’t want your kids to get to a point where they really don’t enjoy this time.

On the other hand structured exercise is a great addition to a healthy lifestyle program where kids naturally get out and move, they walk more, ride their bikes, and play sports. Structured exercise can serve as an added source of movement and activity.

As mentioned above, it’s also great for rainy days or other times when going out isn’t an option.

The ultimate healthy lifestyle for kids will include a natural form of activities daily such as walking, running, climbing trees and just plain being kids. Structured exercise can help support these activities.

Kids and Healthy Eating - Have Your Say
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=L_Petty]L Petty

I don't know what you think, but my head is spinning with the question

"what is healthy to eat?"

1. Do we feed our kids lots of fruit and veg that have been coated in pesticides?

2. Do we need them to eat products that have twice as many additives as the original content?

3. Do we feed them chicken that has been pumped with water?

4. Should they have crisps, sweets and junk food?

5. Should they have fizzy drinks that are apparently bad for their teeth?

6. Do they get there daily nutrients without junk food?

7. What makes chocolate so appealing to kids?

8. Are they becoming more hyperactive because of the food they eat?

9. How healthy are the school dinners your child is getting?

The list is endless. Deciding to eat healthier is not an easy business. The question is, how can we do this without being taken to the cleaners on price?

Lets start kids off on the right foot so to speak.

Kids' health is one of the major problems faced by almost all parents around the world. Carry out regular check up of your kid from family doctor and provide healthy diet to the kid as prescribed by the doctor.

Motivate kids for regular and simple exercises such as walking, daily warm up and if possible swimming.

Most of the parents do not get time to look after their kids and normally kids are on the mercy of the maidservants. This should not happen and regular attention must be provided to the kids so that they are well nourished.Due to various facilities of entertainments such as television, computers, movies and various cartoon channels, normally kids don't get sufficient time to carry out exercises. Thus, yoga is another alternative that can help in reducing extra weight along with improving strength and body coordination.

At least once in a day, have meals with kids and tell them the benefits of balanced healthy diet and advice them to stay away from junk food. In most of the cases, it is found that kids follow the habits of parents so it is better that parents should first change their unhealthy eating habits and carry out regular exercises along with kids. This will help kids as well as parents to look after their own health and in turn eliminate chances of obesity and overweight.

Are Your Kids Getting Fat This Summer?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Eliz_Greene]Eliz Greene

More and more schools are addressing the problem of childhood obesity with increased activity and better food choices, but here's the problem. What happens when kids leave the structure of school for the summer?

They gain weight according to a recent study conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Gone are the days of our childhood, when we were sent out of the house in the morning to play in the neighborhood and returned for meals. We live in a different world -- yet, our kids need to be active.

Here are some tips to keep your kids healthy this summer:

Skip the soda. Kids need water, and lots of it. Soda, powdered drink mixes, and juices add calories your kids don't need and have trouble burning off. If your kids don't like water, try adding a splash of 100% juice or juice flavored ice cubes. If your kids are active outside on days warmer than 90 degrees you might consider giving them a sports drink -- but they don't need the added calories or sodium otherwise.

Structure when they eat. Eat at the table for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Limit snacking to once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Snacks should be small and include fresh fruits and vegetables when possible.

Limit TV time. One or two hours of television or computer/video game time per day is plenty.

Plan something active. Everyday make sure your kids are moving for about an hour. This can be split into two 30 minute sessions or three 15 minute sessions. Walking the dog, mowing the lawn, cleaning up around the house are all good ways the kids can help and be active at the same time. Don't forget about fun games like tag or even playing in the sprinkler. Simply playing at the playground or shooting baskets can get them moving.

Keep out the junk. If the chips aren't in the house, the kids won't eat them. Fill your cupboards and fridge with healthy snack choices.

Of course, all of these tricks will help parent stay healthy this summer too!

Is It Possible To Exercise With My Kids?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Shannon_Tani]Shannon Tani

Think that it's too hard to get into an exercise routine if you have kids? Think again! By involving your children in your exercise program, you will get in the fitness that you need as well as encourage your children to exhibit healthy behaviors that last a lifetime.

Why should I exercise with my kids?
There's no doubt that the number of children with obesity issues is rising, along with that of the rest of the population. When your family makes a point of being active together, then you can prevent or reverse weight gain in your children. Additionally, you will be building healthy habits which will make them unlike to ever become obese, even in adulthood.

When should I exercise with my kids?
The short answer is that you can exercise with your kids whenever you can! People who either don't work or work from home and have very young children don't have to deal with work or school schedules, so they can exercise whenever they want. As children get older, it may be easier to have exercise time after dinner or on weekends.

What types of exercises can I do with my kids?
If your children aren't yet walking, then it's easy to put them in a stroller and go for a walk or a jog. Toddlers enjoy playing simple games such as tag. Older children will enjoy going on a nature walk or a family bike ride. Rainy day? No problem! Most kids love doing a dance or aerobics video inside the house.

Whatever exercises you choose to do with you children, you are guaranteed to become closer to them and to make a positive impact on their lives.

So get out and get moving!

Shannon Tani is a former fattie, who weighed over 220lbs. She has currently lost over 70lbs. One day she realized that people would rather hear dieting advice from someone who's "been there, done that" than a boring old doctor who's never been fat a day in his life. So she started the website Better Off Fat to share her experiences and ideas.

The Benefit of Eating Healthy is Especially Important to Children
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Linda_J_Bruton]Linda J Bruton

The benefit of eating healthy is quite profound for children. Unlike adults, children are still developing strong bones and teeth. Every parent needs to understand the connection between eating and health.

1. Research has shown that children whose diet contains less saturated fats and processed foods will not only live longer but will be less prone to illnesses and disease. They will also be more active and feel healthier, which they will then carry into their adult lives.

2. Healthy eating will greatly reduce mood swings caused by too much sugar and the empty calories of snack foods. By insuring that your children eat the right balance of healthy foods you are actually helping your child to lead a more productive and well balanced life.

3. Another benefit to children of eating healthy is increased vitality. This will increase your child's activity levels, maintaining a healthy weight. Considering the high incidence of childhood obesity these days, that's a very important benefit. Eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise means your children will have more energy and will find it easier to cope with the stresses and strains of childhood.

4. Healthy eating promotes healthy skin. When children eat a healthy diet it shows in their skin, hair, nails and teeth. Learning to eat healthy at a young age will insure that they carry these habits into adulthood.

5. One of the biggest benefits of healthy eating is the ability to maintain weight at the desired level. One of the biggest problems facing children today is the extra weight they carry. Unfortunately obesity in children is increasing at an alarming rate. But by teaching your child to eat a healthy diet they will never have this problem to start with. This will greatly reduce the risk of them suffering from weight-related health issues later in life, such as heart conditions or diabetes.

Children who are taught to eat a healthy diet are more apt to continue these habits for the rest of their lives. They will enter adulthood without the burden of overweight and the stress that junk food diets can cause. The greatest benefit of eating healthy for children is a lifetime of good health!

Good Health Practices - Teach Your Children While They Are Young!
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Fred_Fishburne]Fred Fishburne

One of the most important things that parents should teach their children is the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. The earlier they learn it the more likely they will follow it through out life. Proverbs says, Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. The best way to teach is by example. What children see parents do they will do. The following are a few simple tips on what to teach children concerning living a healthy lifestyle.

1. You cannot have good health without good nutrition.

2. Eat as much raw fruits and veggies as possible.

3. Eat some type of protein at each meal. (Eat meat moderately, organic when possible and eat more fish for the essential fatty acids).

4. Eat several small balanced meals daily (5-6).

5. Make water the drink of choice and drink it often.

6. Get ample rest.

7. Teach your children the importance of regular exercise.

8. Teach your children the importance of supplements.

9. Teach your children how to tell when their body is getting out of balance and address the issue quickly.

10. Show your children how to avoid stress and how do deal with it when it is unavoidable.

11. Teach your children the harmful effects of sugar, fat, salt and caffeine.

12. Teach your children healthy menu planning.

Our children are our heritage. They have the responsibility of taking communities to higher levels. With child obesity on the rise like never before, it is of utmost importance to teach our own children about the benefits of a healthy body. This is the first generation where the parents will out life the children because of poor health in children. French fries and catsup are the two most consumed foods by children. It is not the child's fault. The responsibility falls on the parents educate themselves on how to give their own children proper nutrition and do it.

Healthy Eating for Kids - Free Healthy Eating Plan
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Trevor_John]Trevor John

If you're trying to ensure that you provide healthy eating for your kids, it helps to have a healthy eating plan.

Here's a free healthy eating plan that's easy to follow and will help ensure that you're giving both yourself and your kids the best chance to eat healthily.

Free Healthy Eating Plan

  • Never go shopping on an empty stomach. You'll buy all sorts of extra food, not all of which will be healthy to eat.
  • Take a shopping list with you when you go shopping. And stick to it. Supermarkets are designed to get you to spend extra money when you're shopping. Most of it will fall into the higher profit, unhealthy category. So using a shopping list will reduce the temptation to buy unhealthy food.
  • Stock up on healthy foods like fruit and vegetables. Kids don't always like to eat food they perceive as healthy, so you may need to use your imagination. They'll be drawn to bright colors so in your endeavors to provide healthy eating for kids, look out for items like peppers that will add color and flavor to your cooking.
  • Choose your cooking oil carefully. You may find that using something as simple as a non-stick pan cuts or reduces the need for oil in cooking. Oven cooking can also reduce the need for oil and a hearty casserole can win over even fussy kids.
  • Make sure you go for fresh foods wherever possible. If they're locally grown and in season, so much the better.
  • If you eat meat, choose lean cuts or trim the ones that you do buy.
  • Fish provides an excellent source of Omega 3 fatty acids, so remember to include fish in your healthy eating plan.
  • Choose whole grains over processed ones – for instance, whole grain bread rather than white bread. It's easy nowadays to make your own bread using a bread making machine. You can even set them on a timer, so you could wake up to the smell of freshly baked bread.
  • Don't give up if you or your kids stray from your healthy eating plan occasionally. When your kids change to a plan of healthy eating for kids, there can be occasions when things go awry. Don't panic, just get back onto your free healthy eating plan as soon as possible.

Good luck following a plan for healthy eating for kids and yourself. I'm sure that you will notice the benefits of eating healthily!

Healthy Eating for Children
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Trevor_John]Trevor John

We all know that we are supposed to eat healthy foods. We try to make sure that our children are eating healthily. But how do you know that the healthy eating ideas for children that you're preaching are actually being followed by your children? After all, you're not watching them 24 hours a day.

To a large extent, healthy eating for children needs to become the natural way for your children. Once something becomes a habit, then we will tend to follow that habit. It's not just bad habits that we follow – good habits are often followed just as easily!

How to make healthy eating for children into a habit

Start by setting a good example yourself. You won't be able to preach healthy eating for your children if you're constantly snacking, eating chocolate cakes and slurping down sugary drinks. Your children will see straight through any attempt to get them to "do as I say, not as I do".

Go through your cupboards and seek out any foods that aren't healthy for either you or your children to eat.

Throw them out!

Then make sure that you don't simply replenish them the next time you visit the supermarket.

If your children have become used to not eating healthily, you may need to start training them gradually. Cut out the sweet snacks, replacing them with healthy fruit instead. Make sure that you do the same – your children will soon start a revolution if you're snacking on a packet of potato chips whilst they have to "make do" with an apple.

Variety is key. Don't just stock up on apples as the only fruit. And don't just stick with one variety of apples. Ring the changes and your children will start to eat healthily as a matter of course.

The same goes at meal times. At breakfast time, wean your children off sugary and chocolaty cereals. Maybe start with alternate days. Again, variety is the key to healthy eating for children and adults alike.

Evening meal is another time that you can start introducing healthy food. If your children turn their noses up at vegetables, consider using your blender to mix the vegetables into the gravy or sauce that you're serving. Also remember that lots of foods can be served different ways. Even the way you slice a carrot can make a difference! Mushrooms can be eaten cooked or raw. They can be chopped small as a garnish.

If your children won't eat foods like cabbage when they're cooked, think of using it in coleslaw instead. Raw cabbage has lots of vitamins and tastes nothing like the cooked version. When you're thinking about healthy eating for your children then you sometimes need to be sneaky like that!

Keeping Children Healthy Without Medication
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Pam_Werner]Pam Werner

When I started having children twenty-four years ago, I resolved to raise them to be healthy and medication free. I was fortunate to get my hands on a copy of “How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor” by Robert S. Mendelsohn, MD. Because I was going against the “norm”, I had some trepidations. This book gave me the support I needed.

My husband and I chose to have our births with a midwife because I did not want to be medicated during childbirth or have other unnecessary interventions. That worked out very well for many reasons. One of them was it didn’t require us to convince doctors and hospital personnel that we didn’t want those “extra” things done to our babies that were typically done in a hospital birth setting.

After having read Dr. Mendelsohn’s book and doing a lot of other reading, we also decided not to immunize our children. I noticed that many of my friends’ children (who had been immunized) were frequently sick and had other emotional issues surrounding their immunizations. I was very happy with the outcome of this decision as I observed my children and compared them with other children as they were growing up in regards to their health. My children were infinitely healthier. On the few instances when my children would have a fever or some other sickness, I would turn to Dr. Mendelsohn’s book to remind myself that what I was doing was going to work and that I didn’t need to run to the doctor as so many of my peers were doing. I didn’t know any other babies or children at the time who weren’t often on antibiotics.

I learned that it IS possible to raise children without antibiotics and other medications. Promoting Healthy Child Development
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jane_Gilgun]Jane Gilgun

Children require sensitive, responsive care in order to develop in healthy ways. Sensitive care givers are emotionally available to children. They are responsive to children's cues when, for example, children want to interact with adults or are hungry, lonely, sad, or tired. They help children to express their thoughts and feelings and soothe children when children are stressed. Sensitive adults do not demand more from children than children are able to give. What parents and other care providers expect from children fits with children's levels of social, emotional, sexual, and physical development.

Research has shown that children can develop well in a wide range of socio-economic and ethnic settings. It is a myth that poverty automatically means inadequate care. Income is not a predictor of good developmental outcomes. Quality of care is unrelated to family income. People who do not have much money can and do provide responsive care that promotes children's optimal development. The mental health and attentiveness of parents are the most important factors in healthy child development.

Infants are dependent upon adults for their survival. Over time, they learn to walk, talk, feed and dress themselves. Sensitive adults provide support for children's age-appropriate activities and are effective teachers. They structure tasks so children can learn how to do them. They are respectful of the developing child's autonomy and allow children to explore and attempt tasks without adult interference but also with adult gentle supervision and guidance.

Sensitive, responsive care givers set firm, consistent limits so that children can learn how to behave appropriately. They present children with new tasks that challenge children but that children can attain. Trust between children and care providers is the foundation for healthy development.

Adults and older children have power over children. Not only are adults bigger and stronger, they know more and their cognitive skills are more developed than those of children. In addition, social customs and tradition bestow authority on adults and older children. Children understand intuitively that they are smaller and weaker and are subject to the authority of others.

When adults are sensitive caregivers, pleasurable contact between adults and children in the forms of touching, hugging, and kissing are mutually enjoyed but do not become sexual. As children develop, they form attachments with persons who are generational equals while maintaining family ties. As children group up, almost all eventually form intimate relationships that eventually become sexual within the contexts of committed relationships.

How To Help Your Overweight Child
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sergey_Popov]Sergey Popov

Obesity is an increasing problem for children. As in adults, there is no quick and easy way for kids to lose weight. Instead, many overweight kids end up becoming overweight adults. Healthy eating and physical activity habits are key to your child's well-being. Eating too much and exercising too little can lead to overweight and related health problems that can follow children into their adult years.

Tell your child that he or she is loved, is special, and is important. Children's feelings about themselves often are based on their parents' feelings about them. Accept your child at any weight. Children will be more likely to accept and feel good about them when their parents accept them. Listen to your child's concerns about his or her weight. Buy and serve more fruits and vegetables (fresh, frozen, or canned). Let your child choose them at the store. Buy fewer soft drinks and high fat/high calorie snack foods like chips, cookies, and candy. Eat breakfast every day. Skipping breakfast can leave your child hungry, tired, and looking for less healthy foods later in the day. Plan healthy meals and eat together as a family. Eating together at meal times helps children learn to enjoy a variety of foods. Eat fast food less often.

Start with small servings and let your child ask for more if he or she is still hungry. It is up to you to provide your child with healthy meals and snacks, but your child should be allowed to choose how much food he or she will eat. If your children see that you are physically active and have fun, they are more likely to be active and stay active throughout their lives. Encourage your child to join a sports team or class, such as soccer, dance, basketball, or gymnastics at school or at your local community or recreation center. Children are good learners and they learn what they see. Choose healthy foods and active pastimes for yourself. Your children will see that they can follow healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Your Guide To Healthy Weight Loss For Kids
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Phillip_England]Phillip England

Is your child overweight? Are you worried that healthy weight loss for kids might be impossible? Don't be. Healthy weight loss for kids is possible. And not only that, but you can even do it in the comforts of your own home.

A little planning goes a long way

Most of the time, parents are so busy that there's barely time to prepare a proper meal at home. So over time, children have gotten used to eating junk food and fast food in lieu of healthy meals. However, it's not too late to make changes in your home and introduce healthy weight loss for kids. All it takes is a little planning.

Start out slow, start out small

Depending on how receptive your children are, getting them to eat their fruits and vegetables can be tricky. Start out slow, and increasingly incorporate fruits and vegetables into the foods that they eat. If your child is not used to eating his peas, making him eat that and other vegetables all at once can backfire on you. Pack a fruit with his lunch, or put carrot sticks instead of cookies. You can also substitute fruit juice with chocolate milk. Do this and little by little, your child will get used to eating healthily.

Be the master of disguise

Unfortunately, sometimes you have to play tricks on your children. Everybody wants their food to look good, but children want theirs to be fun. And vegetables just aren't what fun lands are made of. To trick your children into eating healthily, be a master of disguise. Make cartoon faces with vegetables. Make meal times a form of play time, and incorporate vegetables as part of the game. When children perceive vegetables to be fun, they will eat them. And the sooner they eat their vegetables, the sooner they can become healthier.

Be a model

If you want healthy weight loss for kids, you have to be healthy yourself. No, you don't have to be the super parent that eats only fruits and vegetables and hits the gym regularly. But you have to do what you want them to. If you want them to finish your vegetables, finish yours. This is particularly helpful for smaller children since they normally copy what you do.

Children And Physical Fitness - What Can You Do To Improve The Physical Fitness Of Your Children?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mike_Singh]Mike Singh

With the epidemic of overweight people and even children, children and fitness training has become an important topic of interest. While it may not take that much to get children into shape, children and fitness training is something that should be looked at. Just remember that children have tons of natural energy and it's just a matter of honing it so they get the right amount of exercise.

One thing to keep in mind before you consider children and fitness training is how they eat. This can be the number one problem that a child is not in shape. They get so used to grabbing cookies and chips for a snack instead of an apple or granola bar. Get your children to start replacing unhealthy snacks with healthier ones and they will start becoming healthier almost immediately. This will also help any fitness training to work better for them.

Children and fitness training doesn't necessarily need to be a complete workout like an adult would have. In fact children love to play naturally and can lose a lot of weight just by running around in the yard for an hour. This is probably the best way for children to get a good workout. Have them run around, jump rope, ride a bicycle, roller skate or any number of things that they find fun. That is very important, make sure the children are having fun, so they don't give up on it or get bored with it. That way they are more likely to do it on a regular basis, which is needed in order to lose weight and stay healthy. Find something that your child particularly likes to do and encourage them to do it every day or at least a few times a week.

Another good thing when it comes to children and fitness training are dance classes. These are especially good for little girls as they get to socialize with friends and lose weight at the same time. This can be great encouragement if it is something they enjoy. Boys might be encouraged to try a little league baseball team or peewee football team. This gives them the same option of hanging out with kids their own age and still loses weight or get healthy. By encouraging as much fun while getting healthy, you will be more likely to get your children to keep doing what is good for them.

By getting children and fitness training started at an early age, you are building habits that will last a lifetime. The most important aspect is to get them to realize that keeping healthy can be fun. Doing so now can help them live a healthy life for the rest of their lives.

Childhood and Adolescent Obesity: Parents Can Help
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Eric_Hartwell]Eric Hartwell

Parents should keep in mind that weight loss is not a healthy or proper method for young children to employ, as their bodies are still developing. Unless a doctor assigns your child to be put on a diet for specific medical reasons, dieting should not be encouraged in young children, as it could deprive them of the nutrients and energy they need to grow.

You do not want to do anything that is going to add to the health burden of your child. The aim in helping your children grow healthily is to advise, obesrve, support and guide.

The aim, therefore, should be for the child to maintain their current weight while waiting to grow in to their normal height. By reducing fat and increasing physical activity, the vast majority of overweight children will eventually grow in to their normal weight.

While childhood obesity is easy to diagnose, it is not easy to treat. In fact, the best way to prevent and treat the phenomenon known as childhood obesity is to simply encourage a healthy lifestyle at home. Kids are not the best ones at changing their own eating habits and physical exercise habits. They need the help of their parents and guardians.

The causes of childhood obesity are often very easy to figure out. It is usually caused by a lack of exercise combined with an overindulgence in food. Creating healthy eating and exercise habits at home can not only help the health of your child – it can have positive effects on the health of the entire family.

Four Fun Exercises for Children
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mary_Mason-Shields]Mary Mason-Shields

Children are our greatest and most precious assets. We must take an active part in insuring the successes of our children. Their academic success is very important but their physical success is even more important. A healthy child is a child on their way to becoming a well-rounded citizen of our society.

The physical health of a child should include physical activities daily. The best motivator in getting children involved with physical activity is to make the activities fun for them. When children are among their peers, there are several physical activities they can engage in that are fun and healthy to prevent and to stop the spread of childhood obesity.

1. Jump Rope – There are so many charities around today that require children to jump rope. One that comes to my mind is “Jump Rope for Heart.” This is a fun activity for children and a great charity to be involved in. Talk to your children about jumping rope for your favorite charity. Tell them they can practice for their feat by jumping rope daily.

2. Running – Your children can have fun with running. They can race their friends or race each other. Talk to your children about running and tell them that they could be a contender for a Track Team. There is so much a child could do if they run. If they are taught to run correctly, they could have a real chance at running in the Olympics.

3. Hopscotch – This game gets children into jumping, hopping, bending and throwing. A form of cardiovascular exercise, this game gets the heart pumping at a faster rate and increases the metabolism.

4. Kick Ball – This game gets children into exercise that is fun for them. They have repetitions of kicking and running. Children find playing with a ball so much fun. Why not use this form of fun for your children as a means of exercise?

Children can find fun in almost every activity they do. Why not put together some games that implement good physical exercise for children? As long as the focus and emphasis is on fun, children will participate. Along with a vigorous, robust, fun physical activity regime, implement a good healthy meal plan. Children’s appetites will heighten with all of the physical activity, so why not use this as a means of getting children to eat more healthily? Nutrition and physical activity are the keys to a well-rounded child helping them to defeat obesity.

Remember, before starting any plan of attack to fight child obesity, you should get assistance from a professional. Make sure your child does not have any other health issues impeding their success to a more healthy future.

Kid Fitness - If Not Now Then When
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mike_Singh]Mike Singh

Kid fitness is especially important today with the incidents of obesity in children on the rise. This article provides some tips for parents to keep their children active and have a healthy weight. Kid fitness should not just be the domain of the school physical education curriculum. Parents have a responsibility in helping to ensure that their children are fit and do get the exercise they need for their growing bodies. The advances in technology with computer games have led to a decrease in children playing outdoors. Children no longer do a lot of walking and running in order for them to be fit. Being fit at an early age helps children to grow up to be fit adults.

There are many gyms that have kids fitness programs. When you go to the gym, why not make it a family affair and enroll your children. They exercise under the guidance of an instructor, while you get your workout at the same time. This not only helps to improve your children's health, it also eliminates the need for a sitter when you go to the gym. Having family outings has also changed. A family outing now means a trip to the mall or the movies. Taking a brisk walk together allows you to spend time with your children and get a healthy dose of fresh air while exercising your muscles.

Many homes have a variety of fitness equipment. You set a time for your children to do homework, so why not set a time when they also use the equipment to do exercises. Most exercise equipment accommodates a wide range of sizes so there will not be a problem for children to ride the stationary bicycle or use the treadmill. Lifting weights may be dangerous to do at home, but they can use small wrist and ankle weights. You do not have to set resistance levels either just making sure they are exercising is the important thing to do.
