New York
state child restraint laws :
New York state law requires children
age 6 and under to ride in a federally approved car seat
or booster seat that is appropriate for the child's
height and weight. New York state also recommends, but
does not require, that children remain in a booster seat
until they can safely use a lap/shoulder belt with their
back against the seat and knees bent, where the lap belt
sits low across the hips and the shoulder belt doesn't
touch the neck or face. Children under age 16 are
required to wear a seat belt.
Some children require special child
restraints. Premature infants, children with respiratory
difficulties, orthopedic challenges, and neurological
and behavioral problems may require special child
restraints.
