Understanding Toddlers

Taking Care of Toddlers

A human being has tremendous growth during the first three years and this stage is called a toddler stage. Babies in this stage are generally willing to explore new things. The child will try to understand the world around and starts expressing likes and dislikes. Taking care of toddlers is very important, as this stage will only determine the growth of your baby. Your child starts talking and walking. During these stages, the toddler will feel that the world is under his feet and demands for the things he or she wants.

Nutrition

When you're caring for a toddler, you have to concentrate on the nutrition of the baby. During the initial 6 months, breastfeeding is essential. After that, solid foods have to be introduced in succession. When your toddler starts developing teeth, give him something healthy to bite and eat. Your child may protest eating some foods and it is your duty to change this habit and make him or her everything healthy right from fruits to lentils.

Movement

Your toddler starts moving after a year. When you have stairs in your house, you have to install child safety gates to prevent the toddler from climbing the stairs without your supervision. Also all the electrical wiring should be insulated properly and fenced to prevent toddler invasion.

Health

Taking care of the toddler largely means taking care of the toddler's health. You have to provide proper vaccinations at right times. Your toddler may frequently catch cold and fever during these stages and you should provide proper medications at this time suggested by the doctor. Never give strong dosage for your baby without the advice of the doctor. Dental care is also important for toddlers to prevent cavities and other gum infections.

Entertainment

The toddler loves anything that is colorful and musical. You can play mild music and when your child reaches the age of one, you can start collecting toddler games. Children love to learn at this age and hence you can buy interesting games like jigsaw puzzle to engage the child as well as to develop his or her IQ levels.

Discipline

Many parents are finding it difficult to take care of toddlers these days when it comes to disciplining their child. Toddlers are generally demanding and if you find bad behavior, you can just ignore them. Many toddlers change their mind when you offer a diversion from the thing they were demanding for.

While taking care of a toddler, you have to appreciate him or her when he or she does something positive like eating on his own, completing the puzzle etc. Never punish the child for bad behavior. It is your duty to teach him the difference between good and bad. For this, you require patience. Taking care of a toddler is never a stress if you have the right know-how and patience.
