Tips For Your Toddler's Safety

Toddlers are full of curiosity, have no fear and energetic. They have no boundaries so that makes them easier to get wounded. Young kids from 1 to 2 years old have the most probability of getting injured. To avoid that, anyone who take cares the babies and toddlers like parents, child care providers, babysitters and any caregivers may feel exhausted in paying full attention to whatever they do and touch, wherever they are, whenever they get hungry, tired, bored, sleepy, etc. If I may say, they probably should always keep awake and be ready for any possibility which might happen. To lessen your burden in accordance with toddler's safety at playtime, outside and inside the house, here are some tips you may consider to do:

In the Bathroom

Toddlers love water wherever it is. So put the toilet lid down when it not in use. It is also a way to avoid calling a plumber. You can limit the way to the bathroom or just close it whenever it is unused. Put the medication out of reach and always drain the bathtub after use. Even plungers can be fun for toddlers, so never leave them without supervision.

In the Bedroom

On one hand, pictures, area rugs, flowing curtains or drapes, lamps and candles are parts of decoration to raise our mood but on the other hand, they can be dangerous for toddlers. Table cloth with a table lamp on it can attract your toddlers' attention. They like the light and they attempt to grab them. They may drag a chair and stand on it then try to reach the lamp and this might change to disaster. So, be sure you set the bedroom toddler proof.

In the Family Room

Always be conscious of tiny objects and toys which could be choking hazard, like pieces of toys (wheels, button, batteries, etc) and coins. Secure any access to up or down stairs. Provide outlet covers and keep electrical cords out of reach. If you use a carpet, make sure that there is no wrinkle or rolled part.

In the Kitchen

Toddlers enjoy joining us in the kitchen when we dish or cook. They try to be like us, watch and do what we do there. To make it safe, turn the handles of wok / pot / kettle / pan away so those will be out of toddlers' reach. Further, you may use unbreakable and spill-proof travel mugs as you drink hot beverages. One last thing to keep in mind is never leave any unused electric items plugged and place the cords out of toddlers' reach.

In the Car

Ensure that your toddlers' car seats are appropriate to safety regulations and installed appropriately. Put a booster seat for weight and height factors. To avoid your toddlers open the window or door, you need to make the child locks active.

In the Yard

Garden, kiddy pools, swing sets, play yard are wonderful, but always put boundary marker in ponds / pools between house and any water source. Leave the pools dry when unused. Place insecticides, power tools and garden equipment out of toddlers' reach in a safe place.

At Others' Homes

You set your home special for your toddler, but others especially who do not have toddlers at their homes have different setting which is not toddler proof. So, you should pay more attention to your toddler's safety when going to others' homes. Carry their beloved toys so they will take pleasure in playing themselves. And never let your toddlers leave to the bathroom by themselves.

At Doing Sports

There are some programs according to ages offered. Just select one(s) which suitable with your toddlers' ages. The main ideas are learn the basic of a sport, have coordination activities, practice, and have a good time. Do not force your toddlers, or else injuries may happen.

Toddler's Safety Out and About

Toddlers have a tendency to walk independently that makes parents a bit worry and inflexible to walk along with them especially in crowded place, from a store to the parking park and vice versa. To minimize that, toddlers need to be taught some rules, i.e. hold your hand, know and can say their and your names and other safety matters. Well, it is okay to put a call card mentioning their names in their necks or tie a balloon on their wrists to make them be seen easily in case they are separated from you.

Toddlers enjoy outdoor activities. Bicycling is one favorite outdoor sport many kids enjoy. Do not forget to give them helmets so that they can be recognized at a glance.

In general, I do hope that the tips I have given above can be a big help for you to stay your toddler away from injury. Bear in mind, the safety of our toddlers is our tasks as a parent.
